USFilter sues to protect its odor control system patent

Sept. 30, 2002
USFilter Friday announced it has commenced suit against Met-Pro Corporation (Met-Pro) alleging that Duall odor control systems infringe two patents owned by USFilter.

PALM DESERT, Calif., Sept. 30, 2002 -- United States Filter Corp. (USFilter) Friday announced it has commenced suit against Met-Pro Corporation (Met-Pro) alleging that Duall odor control systems infringe two patents owned by USFilter. The suit was filed in the United States District Court in Delaware.

Specifically, the complaint alleges that Duall odor control systems sold by Met-Pro through its Duall division infringe United States Patent No. 6,174,498, entitled "Odor Control System," and United States Reissue Patent No. 35,234, entitled "Modular Air Scrubber System." The complaint seeks an injunction against further infringement by Met-Pro and other appropriate relief.

USFilter makes this patented technology available in the LO/PRO® packaged odor control system from USFilter's RJ Environmental Products. The LO/PRO® scrubber system has become the leading wet scrubber system in the industry. Today there are more than 190 LO/PRO® scrubber systems in operation worldwide. USFilter's RJ Environmental Products specializes in developing, manufacturing and supplying unique and cost-effective solutions to municipal and industrial air pollution problems.

"We believe the odor control scrubber technology protected by these patents is extremely valuable. As a company, we invest significant resources to develop the most advanced water and wastewater treatment technology available. We intend to vigorously defend our rights in that technology against any infringement," said Frank Firsching, President of USFilter's Water & Wastewater Systems Group.
