Fort Washington, Pa., June 17, 2002 -- Moulton Niguel Water District (MNWD) in South Orange County, Calif., has awarded Severn Trent Services a contract to install ClorTec Reservoir Management Systems (RMS) to help maintain and promote homogenous water quality at all 28 of the District's reservoirs. This contract is the largest one-time order for the Severn Trent ClorTec RMS.
"Severn Trent's ClorTec RMS will enable the District to more efficiently and effectively provide high-quality water service to its 160,000-plus residential customers," said Larry Dees, director of operations for Moulton Niguel Water District.
Severn Trent installed its RMS into 12 MNWD reservoirs during Phase I of the project and will now convert the District's remaining 16 reservoirs to RMS technology during Phase II. Initially concerned about reservoir water with unacceptable nitrification levels containing little disinfectant, MNWD explored options to rechlorinate the water to avoid the growth of biofilm and bacteria within distribution lines.
However, maintaining uniform levels of chlorine proved to be a difficult task because of stagnation and stratification within the reservoirs, insufficient feeding and blending, and the ineffective analysis techniques of the solutions explored.
The installation of Severn Trent's RMS technology resulted in a more consistent, uniform chlorine residual, which improved water quality and reduced maintenance requirements and costs without the process concerns associated with competitive technologies. Once installed district wide, RMS technology will provide the equivalent of three additional 5-million-gallon reservoirs and one additional 2-million-gallon storage tank.
