American Water Works Co. Inc. declares quarterly dividend

VOORHEES, N.J., July 11, 2002 -- The Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of American Water Works Co., Inc. on Thursday declared the regular quarterly dividend of 24 1/2 cents a share on the company's common stock, payable August 15, 2002 to shareholders of record on July 26, 2002.

American Water Works Co. is the largest and most geographically diverse investor-owned water utility business in the U.S. The company's utility subsidiaries and affiliates now serve approximately 15 million people in 29 states.
