LAKE MARY, Fla., July 30, 2002 -- HTE Inc. has been selected to provide the City of Muskogee, OK, with new software to power key operations in its municipal court, city administration and utilities services.
The purchase includes HTE GMBA® fund accounting system, Purchasing/Inventory, Payroll/Personnel, Code Enforcement, Land/Parcel Management, Customer Information System for utilities, and Case Management and Document Management Services, for centralized management of municipal court cases.
The city's network manager, Vince Jacobs, said his team was looking for an "industrial strength" solution it could depend on to support vital operations and produce critical reports.
"The software we've been using is just way too underpowered for our current needs, never mind our future requirements. It's been an administrative nightmare trying to provide each machine on our system with the patches and updates needed to keep it running and very often, it still doesn't work."
The city government serves a population of 38,000, with 16,000 utility accounts.
Jacobs said the HTE Customer Information System will allow city workers to eliminate many of the manual tasks that occupy them after hours each week. "Some of the billing and reports we assign staff to do at night will be done automatically by the system and ready for us when we arrive in the morning. And the changes that take us so long to implement now, like utility rate increase or pay raises, will be totally effortless."
He said the new HTE software will allow for widespread diversification of responsibilities among the staff. "The software is so easy to use and so intuitive that more people will be able to access the information they need, especially in areas like payroll and cash receipts. This will give us more flexibility in assigning tasks."
Jacobs said the evaluation team formed by the city to research new technology was sold on HTE by other customers. "Everyone we called was extremely satisfied with HTE; we found no dissatisfaction at all. When we first met with HTE representatives, we were very impressed by their honesty and integrity. And, of course, we liked the products and felt they were a good fit for our needs."
"I think the big benefit HTE will bring is that we'll be able to have faith in our system again. I don't think we will know the full power until it's up and running, and then I think we'll have lots of nice surprises to look forward to," he said.
"We're excited to be working with the City of Muskogee as they embark on this comprehensive, far-reaching technology improvement initiative," said HTE President and CEO Joe Loughry. "I believe they will see immediate and dramatic improvements in daily work processes, which will quickly lead to better service for their citizens. We're looking forward to a long, productive partnership."
