Morrow, Ga. A ringing endorsement for the Clayton County Water Authority's current direction in policy came during their March board meeting when the board of directors unanimously voted for its officers to continue another year in their current capacities.
Pete McQueen, fresh off a new five-year appointment to the Authority from the Clayton County Board of Commissioners, will continue as chairman, while Lloyd Joiner and Lindy Rogers will also serve another year as vice chairman and secretary/treasurer, respectively.
McQueen said he is honored to have the support of his fellow board members and is excited about the future of Clayton County's Water Authority, which is entering its 47th year of operations. The seven-member board of directors offers a great deal of expertise and diversity for making policy decisions for the $70-million organization, he said.
"We have an outstanding board, where every member has a say and is engaged in discussing issues and supporting what's best for the community," said McQueen. "I think this board has remained fiscally responsible, while not compromising quality and safety when making critical decisions about the direction of this Authority. I think our Water Authority is one of the best in the country, and this board has a lot to do with that."
McQueen also applauds the work of Authority manager and employees, who provide the day-to-day expertise for running the local utility.
"We are very fortunate to have the employees that we have, because they do an outstanding job," added McQueen. "We try to recruit and retain the best qualified people in the industry. They are leaders here at home, as well as at trade shows, conferences, and associations across the nation."
McQueen is a former assistant superintendent of Clayton County Schools, where he served 38 years in public service as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal and county administrator. His wife Gwen is also a retired public educator in the county. They reside in Morrow and are active members of Morrow Baptists Church. McQueen's current term on the Authority board officially began again in March and will extend to March 2007.
