Fort Washington, Pa., May 15, 2002 -- The New York City Department of Environmental Protection has awarded Severn Trent a contract for the refurbishment of the 26th Ward wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). The contract is part of the City's on-going maintenance program.
Severn Trent will install all new mechanical systems including chains, sprockets, and flight rails in the eight secondary clarifiers. The contract is valued at $1.7 million and all the work will be completed within one year.
The 26th Ward facility is an 85-MGD wastewater treatment facility in the borough of Brooklyn. Recently, the 26th Ward WWTP was honored with a Gold Level Award for Peak Performance from the Association of Metropolitan Sewerage Agencies (AMSA) for successfully meeting National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit requirements. Gold Awards are given to plants with no NPDES permit violations during the previous calendar year.
