May 31, 2002 -- Recipients for two distinguished awards - the 2002 Swedish Baltic Sea Water Award and the 2002 Stockholm Industry Water Award - have been announced by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI)
The award recipients will be honored during the 2002 World Water Week in Stockholm in August.
2002 Swedish Baltic Sea Water Award: Lithuanian Housing and Urban Development Foundation The Lithuanian Housing and Urban Development Foundation (HUDF), which has developed innovative programs and projects aimed at protecting the environment of Lithuania and the Baltic Sea, was announced May 29 as the winner of the 2002 Swedish Baltic Sea Water Award.
The Foundation's projects have among other results contributed to the reduction of Lithuania's organic pollution to the Baltic Sea from approximately 1,500 tons to 100 tons per year within the actual projects.
The overall approach can serve as a model for other regions in the Baltic Sea area.

Stockholm Industry Water Award: Kaldnes Miljoteknologi AS, an environmental technology company that has developed an innovative, compact and flexible biological water treatment process was announced May 23 as the 2002 recipient of the prestigious Stockholm Industry Water Award.
The Kaldnes Mijoteknologi Moving Bed Process has benefited a diverse array of industries, enabled a worldwide business and knowledge network, and highlighted the unique collaborative opportunities between science and industry.
Thanks to the technology, treatment facilities in the pulp and paper, pharmaceuticals, dairy, chemical and food industries, as well as municipalities, are smaller, more efficient at cleaning water, easier to build or upgrade, and more flexible.
