WAUKESHA, Wis., Feb. 4, 2002 - The city of Karamay, China's new wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) with USFilter's biological and clarification technology began operation in November 2001 after only 10 months from design to startup.
As part of the selection process, designated representatives of the Karamay WWTP viewed USFilter's Orbal™ system at the Cedarburg, Wis. WWTP and compared it to several other biological treatment systems. After careful consideration, the delegates decided that USFilter's Orbal™ system, in combination with other USFilter® equipment, would best meet the Karamay WWTP's needs. In February 2001, the Foreign Economic Trading Corporation of Xinjiang Petroleum Administration Bureau awarded USFilter a $3.1 million contract to supply such equipment for the city's new plant.
USFilter's Envirex Products provided Karamay with three Orbal™ systems, each with 10 x 45 kW drives and 700 discs. The Orbal™ system, a series of complete mix reactors in a single basin, offers flexibility, ease-in-operation and energy-saving features. In addition, USFilter's Envirex Products supplied three 40-meter diameter Rim-Flo® and Tow-Bro® secondary clarifiers with H40LT drives. These high-performance clarifiers are a component of the treatment system that offer significantly lower overall costs through a smaller footprint and lower construction costs. Other equipment for the plant includes two Mectan® vortex-style grit collectors from USFilter.
Startup and commissioning services were also provided for the plant.
USFilter offers more than 30 biological treatment solutions, including Orbal™ and VertiCel™ biological reactors, diffused aeration, and rotating biological contactors. With more than $50 million a year invested in research and development and thousands of biological treatment systems installed across the globe, USFilter is the industry leader in biological treatment.
