Calif. State Water Board to host “Data Innovation Challenge” to harness California water data

CALIFORNIA, March 15, 2016 -- The State Water Resources Control Board on Monday announced it will host a “Water Data Dive,” a series of water data-related events including a special Data Innovation Challenge, from March 18 to April 22.

According to the State Water Board, the challenge is a competition for software developers and designers to create apps, visualizations and other tools that can enhance the availability and integration of key water data.

To kick off the challenge, the State Water Board will host a free one-day Data Fair on March 18 at the California Environmental Protection Agency building in Sacramento. The event will highlight publicly available data, including State Water Board databases. Interested parties can register for the Data Fair on Eventbrite. The Data Fair also will be available via webcast.

Entries for the Data Innovation Challenge are due by April 19 at 5 p.m. Specific instructions on submitting products will be provided by the State Water Board in the coming weeks. Participants must be available in-person or via web conference on April 22 to give a brief presentation on and demonstration of their product.
