Evoqua’s Ionpure® continuous electro-deionization (CEDI) VNX and LX modules are now equipped to deliver enhanced performance. This latest evolution in Ionpure core technology allows system builders to optimize plant design by adjusting the number of CEDI modules, or the product flow rate, in a water purification system. Advantages range from improved water quality to reduced costs and more accurate performance prediction.
Driven by the increasing water purity requirements of the power generation and microelectronics industries, the new changes to both the VNX and LX product lines ensure that the system design benefits apply in high flow and low flow situations and in all CEDI applications, including pharmaceuticals, food and beverage processes.
When integrating CEDI to achieve a certain quality and quantity of pure water output, system designers can use the enhanced performance modules to either:
• Run fewer modules above nominal flow rate, or
• Run more modules below nominal flow rate.
This flexibility applies even when the CEDI stage receives a low quality feed from the system upstream. With weakly ionized species such as CO2 and silica in the supply, feed water conductivity equivalent (FCE) can be as high as 40 µS/cm.
In addition, projections of CEDI performance can now be made more accurately than was previously possible in the lower flow rate ranges.
The IP-Pro CEDI projection tool has been updated to reflect the enhanced performance changes. IP-Pro 2.2.1 software models the actual performance increase at nominal and maximum flow rates and gives a more accurate performance projection for modules operating below their nominal flow rate.
Enhanced performance LX modules also benefit from power reduction technology, already introduced to VNX module design. The result is a minimum 35% reduction in power consumption in comparison to earlier LX modules.
A further enhancement of LX design simplifies the replacement of other popular – and often more expensive -- units, as standard, enhanced performance LX modules may now be connected in a top-down or bottom-up flow configuration.
