OAKVILLE, Ontario, Dec. 20, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE)—Communities in Alberta, Oregon, New Hampshire and Texas have all selected ZENON's (TSE:ZEN.)(TSE:ZEN.A.) ZeeWeed® membrane technology as the preferred solution to providing their residents with clean, reliable water.
These projects total approximately $20 million for drinking water and wastewater plants expected to be built in 2001.
Unlike conventional methods of filtration that use chlorine to kill or inactivate certain contaminants, membranes provide superior water quality by filtering out unwanted particles.
ZENON's ZeeWeed® membranes, in addition to removing water-borne bacteria and viruses, also remove parasites such as cryptosporidium and giardia, which are resistant to chlorine and remain active in the water stream.
The market for water treatment products has increased recently due to the heightened public awareness of water quality issues in municipal drinking water infrastructure. ZENON has already supplied the Town of Walkerton with an interim water purification system, allowing the community to drink their water directly from the tap for the first time in months.
Additional anticipated government funding to other municipalities in Canada and the U.S. will further set the stage for demand for ZENON's systems.
"Increased acceptance of ZENON membranes combined with orders from a wide spectrum of municipalities signals ongoing sales growth and provides continued momentum to what was already a record backlog in the third quarter," states Andrew Benedek, Chairman and CEO of ZENON Environmental Inc.
ZENON is a provider of advanced membrane products and services for water purification, wastewater treatment and water reuse. ZENON Environmental Inc. trades on The Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbols ZEN and ZEN.A.
Chosen as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers, the ZENON group of companies operates from seven locations in North America, six in Europe, and one in each of Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East.
