BILBAO, Spain, June 13, 2003 - USFilter announced that it was awarded a contract to provide a black liquor concentration plant with the largest capacity in the world in a single line. With a treatment capacity of 1,450 tons/hour, the system will be installed at a new pulp and paper plant in Southern China.
USFilter"s HPD Systems will supply complete system engineering and the main equipment, and will also supervise the assembly and assist with start-up. The equipment includes nine preheat falling film evaporators, surface condenser, vacuum system, flash tanks, vapor and liquor recirculating piping, stripping system, non condensable gas system, tank farm, pumps, structure, valves, instruments, electrical material and motor control center (MCC).
"This system is unique, not only because of its size, but also because it will produce 80 percent plus solids with falling film evaporators operating on liquor from mixed tropical hardwood cook," says Ignacio Martinez, managing director of USFilter's HPD Systems in Spain. "The customer was pleased by our project team's ability to work around the clock, from our offices in Spain and in Plainfield, Illinois, to provide answers to their questions overnight."
The system will incorporate recent technological improvements, including enhanced condensate quality, optimized stripper integration and improved ash recycling.
USFilter's HPD Systems introduced the first falling film black liquor evaporator train in 1985, creating a significant shift in the pulp and paper industry. Now, almost all multiple-effect black liquor evaporation systems use falling film technology. HPD Systems has been providing evaporation systems to the industry for more than 75 years, with more than 300 pulp and paper installations around the world.
