Kansas City, Mo., June 5, 2003 -- Black & Veatch announced that John Dyksen, a nationally recognized water expert with considerable consulting as well as utility management and operations experience, has been hired as East Coast Water Practice Leader in the company's Americas Division.
In this role, Dyksen will utilize his nearly 30 years of experience in the water and wastewater industry to help the company's existing clients continue to cost-effectively deliver safe drinking water to their customers and will support the continued expansion of Black & Veatch's East Coast operations.
Dyksen will also work closely with AETD/PROTEUS, Black & Veatch's global team of water and wastewater treatment technology experts, to develop and advance processes and technologies for the benefit of the company's clients and the water industry at large.

Dyksen's experience encompasses water supply, treatment and distribution system projects and operations, including more than 12 years in utility management in charge of operations for both surface and groundwater systems.
Dyksen most recently served as director of engineering and planning with United Water, one of the largest investor-owned water services companies in the United States. In this capacity, he was responsible for a $75 million-per-year capital development and management program for all company properties and prepared master plans, treatment studies and distribution system analyses.
Additionally, he was responsible for technology transfer and research and development activities, including ultraviolet light, high-rate clarification, ozonation and membranes. Dyksen was previously a senior associate with Malcolm Pirnie, Inc., where he was responsible for quality control of process design and plant evaluation for water treatment projects.
Prior to Malcolm Pirnie, Inc., Dyksen was assistant vice president of operations at Middlesex Water Company, where he was responsible for the engineering and distribution/maintenance department.
Dyksen's involvement with the American Water Works Association (AWWA) dates back to 1978. In 1991, he was awarded the George Warren Fuller Award, which is presented annually by AWWA to sections' respective selected members for their distinguished service to the water supply field in commemoration of engineering skill, diplomatic talent and leadership.
In June 2002, he was named an honorary member of AWWA and currently chairs the 2003 AWWA Water Quality Technology Conference.
