Minneapolis, MN, Dec. 8, 2003 -- Open Systems International Inc. (OSI) has recently been awarded a contract to supply a new SCADA and Energy Management System (EMS) to Lafayette Utilities System (LUS) of Lafayette, La.
The new SCADA and EMS will allow LUS to effectively monitor and operate its generation, transmission, and distribution electric assets along with concurrent monitoring and operation of its water and wastewater systems.
The proposed system is based on OSI's distributed and open monarch™ architecture and includes Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, secure and encrypted DNP communications over a private Wide Area Network, ICCP Data communications, Automatic Generation Control applications, Unit Commitment, and a Backup Control Center. Also, as part of the overall project, LUS will be replacing all of their electric, water and wastewater systems' Remote Terminal Units (RTUs).
The system will be based on Solaris 8 and Windows® XP operating systems with an Oracle® database management system. The system will be fully implemented over a 15 month period.
"We welcome LUS to our family of users and we are looking forward to a successful project implementation and a long term partnership. This project is strategically very important to OSI due to deployment of our advanced Cyber Security technologies including our secure and encrypted DNP RTU communications over an IP network. This project could serve as a model of a Cyber Secure SCADA architecture for other utility companies," said Bahman Hoveida, OSI's President and CEO.
"Efficient and reliable service is what LUS's customers have come to expect, and that is what LUS will deliver, now and in the future. We look forward to working with OSI on the SCADA and EMS replacement project, so that LUS will be ready to better serve our customers' future utility needs," states Edgar Rivera, LUS's Energy Control System Supervisor.
