Water-saving display model narrowly avoids run-in with little boy

If you ever walk into the lobby of Covington Water District's headquarters in the state of Washington, you may wonder why there is a plant in the display toilet.

KENT, Wash., July 16, 2003 -- If you ever walk into the lobby of Covington Water District's headquarters in the state of Washington, you may wonder why there is a plant in the display toilet.

The District recently implemented a bulk purchase of water saver toilets to help its customers reduce their water use. So that customers could take a look at the new toilet prior to ordering, staff placed a display model in the lobby of their building.

The toilet had not been out of the box and on display more than 45 minutes, when a woman walked in with her little 3-year old boy. Upon seeing the toilet, the little boy made a beeline for it, (or was that a "pee-line") yelling, "I gotta go!" The shocked receptionist and the Mom caught him in the nick of time before the toilet got christened, and rushed him off to the restroom.

So, if you're considering placing a display toilet in your lobby, be sure to add a deterrent to make the toilet less enticing to small children.

By the way, the toilet sale is going great -- over 1,000 water saver toilets have been distributed. If you'd like more information on doing a bulk purchase (and the pitfalls to avoid), call Gina Hungerford at 253-631-0565, #167, or email her at [email protected].

Note: Covington Water District is located in Washington State, about 40 miles from Seattle. It has approximately 12,500 connections in its 55 square mile service area. The District has garnered five awards from the Pacific Northwest Section of the American Water Works Association in the last eight years for its conservation and public education programs.
