Broken Tijuana water main leaves thousands without water
March 9, 2001—A water main rupture in a Tijuana neighborhood Wednesday destroyed five homes and left 300,000 without water, according to TheSanDiegoChannel.com.
Repair crews were installing a new pipe Thursday, but water service was expected to be shut off for at least four days.
Engineers blame recent rains for soaking the hillside, which may have led to the water main break.
The pipe is expected to be repaired by Sunday evening.
