DANVERS, Mass., Jan. 11, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Signal Technology Corporation (Nasdaq:STCO), a provider of electronics products for wireless communications in the commercial, defense and space markets, today announced that it has received an order for more than $7.5 million in multipoint customer premise equipment (CPE) from a leading provider of carrier class, fixed broadband access solutions.
The company has been selected as the primary supplier of multipoint radio technology for the subscriber end of a family of fixed wireless broadband systems that provide last-mile connectivity for business and residential subscribers.
"This order is the most important milestone to date in our strategic effort to add multipoint products to our existing, fast-selling line of point-to-point radio offerings in the commercial wireless broadband market," said George Lombard, Signal Technology's chairman and chief executive officer.
"We doubled our R&D investment in 2000, opening a Product Design Center in Dallas dedicated to engineering a new line of multipoint radio offerings. It is exciting to see this investment yield substantial bookings and backlog in such a short time. Multipoint wireless is emerging as the leading solution for last-mile broadband access, and Signal's RF technology and manufacturing expertise place us in a strong position to capitalize on this growth potential in 2001 and beyond."
"Signal's core competency is designing and manufacturing rugged, high-performance RF equipment, and nowhere is this expertise more mission-critical than in outdoor fixed wireless broadband applications," said Signal's President and Chief Operating Officer James DiLorenzo. "Our new 3.5 GHz multipoint product provides a combination of high data rates, linearity and reliability that is unmatched in the broadband infrastructure industry today. Our customer is seeking exactly these capabilities for its system, which enables service providers to satisfy the demand for low-cost, reliable, high bandwidth access for business and residential customers. We are pleased to be selected to supply the subscriber radio equipment for this innovative and successful last-mile connectivity solution."
