Sacramento, Calif., November 8, 2001 - Hansen Information Technologies announced today that the City of Raleigh, North Carolina has selected Hansen's Public Works solution for the City's Public Utilities Department in cooperation with the City's Finance and Information Services Departments.
The new system will be used to manage the operation and maintenance of the City's water and sewer operations. The integrated system will enable the Public Utilities Department to provide quality services in an efficient and cost-effective manner, while streamlining business processes and decision support within the department.
The Hansen solution was selected through a competitive process and includes software licensing, project management, data conversion, and training. "We needed to move to the next level of technology. The Hansen system best met our scope of needs in the areas of work order, inventory and customer service," said Jack Moyer, Assistant Public Utilities Director, "The system will give us the ability to electronically generate work orders and provide us with better work order and inventory analytical capabilities."
The department will be replacing a mainframe computer-based system with the Hansen solution making it easier to track inventory, generate work orders for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and generate cost reports.
Plans are underway to use mobile devices for completing electronic work orders in the field. Raleigh's Public Utilities Department operates a water distribution and sewer collection system in the City and surrounding area, compromised of approximately 1,450 miles each of water and sewer mains.
The system serves approximately 100,000 metered customer locations and is operated by 300 employees. The new system will integrate the customer service, work order, preventive maintenance, parts inventory and resource planning functions. In addition, Moyer said the Hansen system will provide the department with a new inventory and work order module for public utility field crews, including the ability to implement wireless communication devices.
The new system will be implemented in two phases and will be used by 50 employees in the Public Utilities Department during phase one. The system will give employees the ability to manage work activities and track customer calls from initial contact to problem resolution. In the future, the system will be used to support the City's established Geographic Information System (GIS) database that is used to display various components of potable water and wastewater data. The first phase will be implemented immediately and is to be completed in four months.
