November 15, 2001 — The National Small Flows Clearinghouse (NSFC) recently posted information about safety precautions for wastewater treatment plants on the Web at http://www.nsfc.wvu.edu.

Every American needs to be confident that discharge from their community wastewater treatment plant is safe. Adequate protection of publicly-owned treatment works is an important goal of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Since the September 11 terrorist attacks, EPA established a Water Protection Task Force. The members of this group have proven expertise in different areas of water protection, and they will send alerts, as needed, about issues related to protecting water infrastucture nationwide.

In addition, the National Drinking Water Clearinghouse (a partner organization to the NSFC) has gathered information about how drinking water treatment plants can secure themselves. Visit http://www.ndwc.wvu.edu for more information.
