New journal available for civil engineering community combining current practice articles and educational opportunities

WATERBURY, CT, September 17, 2001 -- Haestad Press, a subsidiary of Haestad Methods, today announced the launch of a new civil engineering journal, Current Methods.

The journal combines articles on the latest innovations in water resources modeling and practical modeling case studies. Each issue also provides a test for earning Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and credit towards one of several Haestad Methods Certification levels.

"With Current Methods, Haestad Methods introduces a new approach to knowledge dissemination and technology transfer in a magazine that merges technical articles with training," said Jim Davis, Executive Director and CEO of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), in the Current Methods keynote address.

Davis, who is also a member of the Civil Engineering Research Foundation (CERF) Board of Directors added, "I am pleased and encouraged that Haestad Methods shares ASCE's commitment to advocate life-long learning and continuing education for civil engineers."

The inaugural issue of Current Methods focuses on water distribution modeling and covers industry- topics such as calibration fundamentals, model accuracy, and leakage determination. A case study outlining a methodology for obtaining node elevation data from a surface model by interfacing with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software and Haestad Methods' WaterCAD is also included.

By using related New Yorker Magazine cartoons, extensive graphics, and photos, Rick Brainard, Art Director for Haestad Methods, transformed Current Methods into an informative journal offering just the right blend of technology and high-quality visuals. "We understand that reviewing formulas and methods nonstop can be taxing on anyone. That is why we designed Current Methods to entertain while it informs."

The journal's Pressure Piping System and Water Quality Analysis CEU Test offers professionals a unique opportunity to earn Haestad Methods A+ Modeler Certification and 1.8 CEUs (18 PDHs). Haestad Methods' engineers will evaluate and award certification to those students who successfully complete the exam with a score of 70 percent or better.

"By addressing the application of models to real-world systems, Current Methods fills a gap between technical journals and program user manuals," states Tom Walski, contributing author and Vice President of Engineering at Haestad Methods.

Current Methods is available at the Haestad Methods online store at www.haestad.com/store for $25..
