Wilmington, NC, September 26, 2001 — McKim & Creed, P.A., a multidisciplinary design firm, announced today that it has forged a strategic alliance with Geographic Technologies Group, Inc. (GTG), experts in the design, development, and implementation of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

This alliance enables both companies to offer more complete, effective GIS solutions to municipalities, counties, businesses, and organizations.

GIS is a computer system that captures, maps, and analyzes spatial data. GIS has become one of local governments' most valuable tools for planning, cost reduction, and decision-making. GIS technology layers information from databases onto interactive maps drawn using aerial imagery, parcel maps, site plans, and Global Positioning System (GPS) data.

"McKim & Creed brings to this alliance the accurate ground control, or surveying and location, capability to 'feed' into GIS systems," said McKim & Creed President and CEO Michael W. Creed, PE. "GIS is based on real 'as-built' systems, ownership of property, etc., and for GIS databases to be functionally 'real,' lots and lots of field work must occur. McKim & Creed can provide those location and identification services. Together, McKim & Creed and GTG can offer a bundled GIS service, from 'soup to nuts,' addressing all the responsibilities or stewardships that governmental entities have."

Added David Holdstock, CEO of GTG, "Our strategic alliance with McKim & Creed offers us an opportunity to bind innovative GIS software to specialized engineering tasks."

McKim & Creed works with governments, businesses, and industries throughout the Southeast, providing engineering, architectural, surveying, and planning services. The award-winning company has been named by Engineering News-Record as one of the top 500 design firms, and top 200 environmental firms, in the U.S. McKim & Creed is headquartered in Wilmington, NC, and employs 240 professionals in offices located throughout North Carolina, Florida, and Virginia.
