LINTHICUM, Md., Dec. 28, 2001 — A water main break near the Baltimore-Washington International Airport closed the only terminal access road for several hours, snagging traffic and delaying flights for several hours.

The break, which happened early this morning along Interstate 195's airport exit, was made more dangerous for drivers when the leaking water froze solid, the Associated Press reported.

About 50 flights were affected by the road closure between 4:30 and 9 a.m. EDT.

The break occurred in a test pipe that was installed an expansion project for the airport terminal, AP reported. The cause was not immediately known, but workers are checking and securing all other test pipes which were also installed in the area.
