SACRAMENTO, Calif., Oct. 8, 2001 -- The Carmichael Water District, serving suburban Sacramento communities, held a dedication ceremony for its new Bajamont Way Membrane Filtration Water Treatment Plant.
Around 200 people from the community attended the ribbon cutting ceremony. "From the beginning our community was very active in the project and participated in the final site selection and building design," said LaNell Little, general manager for Carmichael Water District. "We evaluated many conventional and non-conventional filtration methods and ultimately selected microfiltration for its extremely small footprint coupled with its ability to provide excellent quality drinking water."
The membrane (microfiltration) plant uses USFilter's Memcor® Continuous Microfiltration (CMF) water system. USFilter's Memcor® CMF technology is used in more municipal installations than any other microfiltration or ultrafiltration technology worldwide.
The Memcor® CMF plant is capable of delivering 17 million gallons per day of clean, safe drinking water to the community. The source water, the American River, is collected in manmade Ranney wells that act as infiltration galleries in the bed of the river. The water is filtered through the Memcor® CMF system. It uses specially designed polymeric membrane fibers to filter suspended solids, contaminants, Cryptosporidium oocysts, Giardia cysts and other harmful pathogens from the water supply. The CMF technology features a patented gas backwash for cost effective system cleaning and unique on line integrity testing to offer unmatched process quality control.
Steve Wirtel, executive vice president for USFilter attended the dedication ceremony and reported, "This is the largest municipal membrane plant in operation in the state of California.
