WHEAT RIDGE, Colo., Oct. 24, 2001 — Winncom Technologies Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of ARC Wireless Solutions, Inc., announced that it will supply wireless LAN / WAN equipment, engineering and commissioning services to ABB Automation Inc., a unit of ABB Group, as part of a contract awarded to ABB by the City of Ft. Lauderdale to install process control upgrades at the G. T. Lohmeyer and Fiveash Water Treatment Plants and wastewater pumping stations.
Winncom's scope in the project is the design and commissioning of a wireless high-speed data network for collecting process data from remote pumping stations located throughout the city, using Western Multiplex and Alvarion (formerly BreezeCOM) high-speed wireless Ethernet equipment. Winncom will perform the site surveys, provide design and site supervision services, and supply the equipment for the project.
Historically, Winncom has had a particular strength in working with systems integrators and value-added resellers in the field of industrial process automation and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA). Winncom was one of the first to offer the use of wireless Ethernet devices in SCADA applications, having successfully participated in numerous integration projects involving telemetry and industrial process control.
"Use of high-speed wireless LAN technology in telemetry and industrial process automation has a bright future," said Michael Maly, Winncom's Director of Marketing. "It will allow engineers to combine enterprise computing with process control on a single high-speed backbone, significantly reducing initial capital outlay and operating expenses," added Maly.
"In ABB's pursuit of technological excellence, we look for suppliers that have a proven track record of delivering technology and services with the highest degree of expertise and customer responsiveness — from equipment procurement to system design and installation. We look to companies like Winncom to fulfill these expectations," said Day Stephens, Director of Sales and Marketing for ABB Water Automation group.
