VINELAND, N.J., July 3, 2001 -- The State of New Jersey Department of Labor recently presented USFilter's Wallace & Tiernan Products with a Citation of Merit Award for operating throughout the calendar year without experiencing a lost-time work-related injury or illness. The award is part of the Governor's Occupational Safety and Health Awards Program for achievement in the prevention of workplace injury and illness.
The water and wastewater equipment and services provider accepted the award at the 73rd Annual South Jersey Industrial Council Awards Banquet in Almonesson. In addition to USFilter, 160 New Jersey companies earned a Citation of Merit Award.
Established in 1927, the state-sponsored Governor's Occupational Safety and Health Awards Program is designed to recognize businesses that promote safety and health excellence in the workplace. The program is open to all places of employment, public and private, regardless of size, and is sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Labor, the New Jersey State Industrial Safety Committee, and the New Jersey State Safety Council.
Although the official lost-time count ended on December 31, 2000, USFilter's Wallace & Tiernan Products continues to add to its record. As of June 30, the Vineland, N.J.-based facility has accrued an additional 168,320 man-hours without a lost-time incident, bringing the company's total accumulated hours since the count first began to 863,808 man-hours. An unblemished year-end no lost-time record would qualify Wallace & Tiernan Products for the Division of Public Safety and Occupational Safety and Health Award.
