April 26, 2001—Twelve schools in the Easley, S.C., area were forced to close Thursday when a water main break left 1,500 customers without water, according to the WYFF television channel.
The main 30-inch water line was at the location of an earlier break in December. Officials for Easley Combined Utilities said the materials used to repair the earlier break failed and caused the break to occur again.
The line was repaired on Thursday morning, but the area is under a boil water order and residents have been asked to conserve water for a day or so. There were no confirmed reports of contamination of the system.
