Sacramento, Calif., May 23, 2001 -- Hansen Information Technologies announced today that the City of Topeka, Kansas has selected the company's infrastructure and eCitizen Relationship Management (eCRM) solutions.
The new system will be used to manage the operations and customer service activities of the City's Water Division, and will enable the Division to continue to provide quality water and service to customers in an efficient and cost-effective manner. The Hansen solution was selected through a competitive bid process and includes software licensing, project management, data conversion, interface development and training.
"The Water Division selected Hansen because they best fit our needs," said Don Rankin, Superintendent of the Water Division. "We were looking for a maintenance package that was sensitive to employee needs, while providing innovative customer service options."
The Division will be replacing a manual work order and tracking system with the Hansen solution making it easier to streamline customer requests and problem reports for items such as broken water mains, water quality complaints, and turn on/turn off of service. Plans are also in place to use mobile devices for completing work orders in the field.
"We are moving towards as much electronic data capture as possible to respond faster to customer requests and keep information flowing to our employees as close to real time as possible," said Rankin. "We will use Hansen with our Customer One-Call Center to generate work orders in response to customer requests and to track response time."
The Division currently responds to an average of 7,000 citizen requests each month from the One-Call Center for customer inquiries related to water, sewer and refuse services. The Water Division's 108 employees are also responsible for the maintenance and operation of over 800 miles of distribution main, 12,000 valves, 51,000 meters, 4,400 hydrants and a 63 million gallon per day water treatment plant.
The City of Topeka has been using the Hansen system in the Water Pollution Control Division for over 14 years. They have been using it to operate, maintain, and improve the collection, treatment, and disposal of wastewater and stormwater for the City. The Water Division will be added to the existing installation, and the implementation is expected to take approximately nine months.
