DO & NPDES Needs

Meeting NPDES permit limits is a major issue for many industrial operations. This is particularly critical for industries that require large volumes of process water such as pulp and paper mills.

Meeting NPDES permit limits is a major issue for many industrial operations. This is particularly critical for industries that require large volumes of process water such as pulp and paper mills. Industries with highly concentrated and variable waste streams like those typical of food processing operations can also be problematic. Variations in BOD loading caused by process upsets and maintenance or oxygen transfer limitations caused by temperature variations can result in challenging situations.

Meeting BOD permit limits under these conditions may require supplemental aeration to keep the biological system in balance or return a system to balance following an upset. Other environmental factors such as low flow rates in the receiving water system may also require increased DO levels in the effluent to avoid reducing discharge rates. In many situations, oxygen-based, rapid response, temporary aeration service is the most effective and lowest cost alternative. IWW
