Local water community shares technology, advances
DENVER, August 22, 2008 -- CH2M HILL, a global full-service engineering, procurement, construction, and operations firm, hosted a group of water utility managers from the City of Cairo, Egypt and surrounding regions, to help them gain an understanding of the advanced processes, technologies and management practices being used by U.S. water and wastewater utilities and to share their advances within Egypt.
"This visit grows out of a CH2M HILL contract with USAID in Egypt," said David Osgood, Project Manager. "Under this program, CH2M HILL provides broad management assistance to Egyptian water utilities and assists the Egyptian Government with addressing water policy and sector reform issues."
CH2M HILL identified 24 middle managers with potential for upper level management responsibilities and developed a broad-based professional development program for this group -- part of which is the Study Tour. A CH2M HILL team in Denver organized visits to Denver Water, Aurora Water, AWWA Research Foundation, and the Upper Occoquan Service Authority (UOSA) Regional Water Reclamation Plant serving northern Virginia.
David Osgood also says that "Water sector officials in Egypt feel this U.S. trip is an important part of their effort to prepare a new generation of water utility managers, and they anxiously await trip participants to implement new techniques learned during their visit."
In addition, three experts from CH2M HILL OMI outlined how water and wastewater plants are operated and maintained in the United States and how those procedures can be applied in Egypt. They also shared some of the tools, technologies and best practices that CH2M HILL OMI people deploy throughout the company's operations, focusing in particular on asset management strategies, process improvement consulting, and the quality principles followed to yield top results for clients.
Headquartered in Denver, Colo., employee-owned CH2M HILL is a global leader in engineering, procurement, construction, management and operations for government, civil, industrial and energy clients.
