Mott MacDonald appointed on major Ethiopia water program
Aug. 28, 2008 -- Mott MacDonald has been appointed by the Ministry of Water Resources (MoWR) of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia on a €36 million water and sanitation project, jointly funded by the European Commission and European Investment Bank. The 15 Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Project is one of many programs being introduced to help reach the United Nations' 2015 Millennium Development Goals.
Mott MacDonald's team of water and environment professionals has been commissioned in association with AG Consult, Ethiopia to review designs and update tender documents for the project which covers the water supply to 15 towns in four regions of Ethiopia.
The project team will also help strengthen local institutional services, provide advice on sanitation facilities and prepare a concept paper for an 'access to water' facility which is to be introduced to ensure affordable connections. The team will also scope-out the capacity building requirements of the local Town Water Supply Services to help them address their long term responsibilities for operations of water services going forward.
Peter Bolton, Mott MacDonald's project manager said, "We are delighted to be appointed by MoWR on this important project, which when completed, will drastically improve the living conditions of about half a million people as well as help secure the sustainable future of access to safe water and sanitation in the 15 towns."
