LONDON, UK, April 29, 2008 -- The Gases Division of the Linde Group, will present a number of new approaches for the use of oxygen in waste-water treatment at this year's IFAT, the 15th international trade fair on water, sewage, refuse and recycling. Linde will demonstrate its ability, thanks to its acquisition of the British BOC Group in 2006, to provide customers globally with gas technology for water-purification purposes. IFAT takes place in Munich, Germany, from 5 to 9 May 2008.

In view of the growing significance of waste-water treatment, Linde has extended the capabilities of its SOLVOX®-V system. A key enhancement of the system, which exploits the Venturi effect, is that it divides water drawn by the immersion motor pumps into four equal parts. These are then enriched individually with pure oxygen using special double nozzles.

By making more efficient use of oxygen via the SOLVOX-V injection system, the capacity of biological purification plants is increased. For example, the system can supply aeration basins with additional oxygen at peak times. Additionally, injecting oxygen into the water enables the treatment process to be switched to nitrification/de-nitrification without undertaking modifications to the plant. Feeding oxygen into the basins also has the benefit of quickly and economically eliminating odours.

Linde strengthens its presence in Eastern Europe
Linde's particular focus in this area is on the new EU markets, including the Baltic States, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary, where the company has strengthened its market presence. As a result, Linde is able to provide comprehensive advice to operators of municipal and industrial water-treatment plants regarding how they can meet EU requirements on the treatment of waste water.

"In view of the growing requirements concerning environmentally friendly waste-water treatment, it's not only important to provide customers with the technology they need, it's imperative we advise them how to make the most economical use of oxygen," explains Dr Stefan Dullstein, Head of Aquaculture and Water Treatment at The Linde Group. "Linde is definitely playing a pioneering role in this important environmental area."

Economic benefits of Linde's water treatment offerings include increased capacity of existing sewage treatment as a result of using oxygen intelligently -- and with no additional investment needed for structural modifications. Plant operators also avoid having to make any penalty payments for exceeding treatment thresholds. In addition, injecting oxygen into waste water is currently the most eco-friendly technique for water purification, and accounts for Linde's major role in the regeneration of rivers, including the purification of the River Thames in London as well as waterways in Hamburg and Berlin.

During IFAT 2008 you will find Linde at booth 424 in hall A2 of the New Munich Trade Fair Centre.

The Linde Group is a leading gases and engineering company.
