YORKSHIRE, UK, May 14, 2008 -- Engineering company Earth Tech has secured a £5 million contract to repair flood damage at a water and waste treatment works in South Yorkshire.
The contract has been awarded by Yorkshire Water and work will commence this summer.
In June 2007 Aldwarke water and waste treatment works was severely affected by floodwater which rose to depths of 2.5 metres across the whole site. As a result, a significant number of components were damaged, many beyond repair.
Temporary repair work was carried out immediately after flooding to restore treatment capability. Earth Tech has now been appointed to carry out full-scale repair and replacement of damaged assets to restore the site to its former condition.
Rob Wroe, project manager at Earth Tech, said: "We've built up a close relationship with Yorkshire Water and are delighted to have been awarded this contract. The work is vital in protecting the whole site to ensure it is well placed to withstand any future flooding."
Earth Tech will replace or refurbish electrical and mechanical plant damaged by floodwater. Thirteen motor control centres and control panels, cabling pumps, aerators will have to be replaced. The scraper bridge has to be refurbished and sludge-thickening equipment will be required. Two off site pumping stations will also be included in the contract.
