AWWA appoints Gene C. Koontz as next president-elect

The American Water Works Association board of directors has appointed Gene C. Koontz, P.E., BCEE, as the company's next president-elect.

HARRISBURG, PA, May 6, 2014 -- The American Water Works Association (AWWA) board of directors has appointed Gene C. Koontz, P.E., BCEE, as the company's next president-elect. A nationally-renowned water quality expert and senior vice president with Gannett Fleming, Koontz brings more than 35 years of experience to the position. Koontz will begin his role as president-elect in June 2014 at the conclusion of AWWA's Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE14) in Boston, Mass., and will start his one-year presidential term in June 2015. An AWWA member since 1982, Koontz has been an active volunteer and leader in the AWWA Pennsylvania Section, serving as section chair, Water Quality Committee chair, Water Utility Council member, and Program Committee chair. On the national level, he recently completed a three-year term on the board of directors, where he also served on the executive and finance committees. In 2013, he received Pennsylvania AWWA's Samuel S. Baxter Award for outstanding service in the field of water supply. Based in the firm's headquarters in Harrisburg, Pa., Koontz is Gannett Fleming's Environmental Resources Division director and serves on the board of directors. He provides coordination and guidance to a staff of more than 350 located throughout 25 offices. A registered professional engineer in 14 states, Koontz holds a bachelor of science in civil engineering from Lehigh University.
