KILDARE, Ireland and WASHINGTON, DC, Mar. 17, 2009 -- Bord na Mona, Plc., a leading Ireland-based provider of environmental pollution solutions, today announced plans to open its new state-of-the-art innovation center in Greensboro, North Carolina. The announcement was made at a business reception today in Washington, DC hosted by Enterprise Ireland, the Government Agency responsible for driving leadership and growth for innovative Irish companies in international markets. The event was one of several associated with a trade mission to the U.S. led by Ireland's Prime Minister, Brian Cowen.
The center will showcase the company's residential wastewater treatment products, including Puraflo®, which is already widely deployed across the U.S., along with the company's new decentralized wastewater & water reuse technologies and its innovative odor/VOC abatement systems. The facility will also serve as a research and development hub for a new generation of environmental solutions.
Through its U.S. subsidiary, Bord na Mona Environmental Products, which was established in 1993, the organization has been providing a range of high-performance wastewater treatment, water reuse and odor-abatement solutions to a mix of residential customers, large municipal organizations, and community developers across the nation.
The new innovation center coincides with Bord na Mona's expansion in the U.S. with the recent launch of MONASHELL®, one of the company's odor/VOC control solutions, along with the PuraM, PuraMAX, & PuraSAF packaged wastewater treatment systems. In addition to demonstrating these newly launched technologies, the center features product development efforts that include a residential compact membrane, the PuraMc, and a de-nitrification system, the Pura-DN. Also ongoing are a number of research initiatives in the areas of tertiary membrane treatment and phosphorus/nitrogen reduction. A particular focus will be on developing new technologies that incorporate recycled or natural materials, reduce the use of chemicals, provide water reuse solutions, and reduce energy demand.
The center will enable potential customers to view the company's treatment processes in operation and to get third-party performance data showing the specific treatment capabilities of each process. It will also allow existing customers to preview new innovations and improved treatment processes, and see them in operation prior to making changes at their plant. Where appropriate, the center will be used to partner with clients to undertake customized product development.
Shane Keaney, president of Bord na Mona U.S. paid tribute to Ireland's long tradition of applying innovative technologies to solve pressing environmental problems. Keaney noted, "Bord na Mona is committed to providing innovative wastewater, water reuse and air pollution solutions that reduce energy and chemical consumption, incorporate recycled or waste materials, and provide for water conservation. We're excited to open our innovation center and very pleased to be partnering with North Carolina State University in verifying the performance of our cutting-edge solutions."
