PICKERING, ON, Canada, Mar. 30, 2009 -- Eco-Tec is pleased to announce the sale of a Water Filtration System to Tucson Electric Power (TEP) for their coal-fired power plant located in Springerville, Arizona.
The decision to replace the existing gravity filters in TEP's water treatment system was made to improve the performance and water quality. Sargent & Lundy are the owner's engineers for the project and they decided to evaluate several different technologies. The feed water used at the site was of a quality with very fine suspended particles, and as such, a high quality filtration system was required.
After a successful filterability study, Eco-Tec was selected to provide the new filtration system. The solution provided by Eco-Tec consisted of four Spectrum Micro Media Filters™ for the feed water to existing reverse osmosis trains. The system is configured to produce a filtrate quality of < 0.2 NTU and an SDI of < 3-5. The Spectrum Micro Media Filter™ is a patented, automated, backwashable media filter with capabilities of providing water of a quality comparable to that produced by membrane filtration with lower capital and operating costs. This system is scheduled to start up in August 2009.
