AJMAN, United Arab Emirates, Mar. 4, 2009 -- Technology firm Aconex has been selected by Al Zorah Development Company to provide its online collaboration solution to the US$1.6 billion infrastructure phase of one of the UAE's largest developments, the Al Zorah master planned city in Ajman. The Aconex system will be used to manage information and link organizations involved in the project.

Aconex provides a web-based platform for managing project information such as drawings, documents and correspondence. By using the system, organizations involved in the development will be able to view, distribute and track their information online in real-time, from any location and at any time.

Scheduled over a 16-year period, with a potential construction value of $60 billion, Al Zorah involves the planning and development of 12 million square meters of coastal and sea-reclaimed land. It is expected to be home to more than 200,000 people and include schools, leisure facilities, championship golf courses, marinas, and hotels. The infrastructure phase will include the backfilling of major road networks and the construction of a wastewater treatment plant, a district cooling plant and a power station.

Imad Dana, CEO of Al Zorah Development Company, said: "Undertaking a project of this magnitude involves many stages of development that need to be closely managed and controlled. The infrastructure phase of the project will involve organizations from the Middle East and overseas, that will need instant, round-the-clock access to their data. Aconex will make it easy for any team member, anywhere, to retrieve the information they require."

Peter Hedlund, Aconex General Manager Middle East, said: "On the infrastructure phase alone, hundreds of organizations will create and exchange millions of documents and correspondence items. With companies constantly joining and leaving the project, there needs to be a high level of transparency and continuity of information."

Hedlund added: "In the current climate, tools that can help to improve efficiency and control risk are extremely valuable. Without a collaboration system like Aconex, projects of this scale would find it difficult and expensive to manage data and communicate across a dispersed team."

Aconex provides online collaboration to the construction and engineering industries and is a market leader in the Middle East.
