• Board of Directors also names two new vice-presidents and director-at-large
DENVER, CO, Jan. 27, 2009 -- The Board of Directors of the American Water Works Association (AWWA), the authoritative resource on safe water, today announced its next president-elect will be Joe Mantua, project manager at Black & Veatch Corp. Mantua will assume his new position at AWWA's Annual Conference & Exposition (ACE09) in San Diego, California in June 2009, and will begin his year-long term as president in 2010.
Mantua is a 24-year veteran of the water industry and an AWWA member since 1987. Before joining Black & Veatch, a leading global engineering, consulting and construction company Mantua was in charge of development services for the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission.
"Despite all the challenges we face, I am very optimistic about the future of AWWA," Mantua said. "I hope we will work together to harness the energy of our members and define the ideas that will keep our sections strong and AWWA the unifying association in the water community. I understand the benefits of AWWA to utility managers and water professionals, and I will carry that message passionately to other utility decision makers."
In addition to Mantua, the board also elected two new vice-presidents and a new director-at-large during the meeting. Charlie Anderson and Debra Kaye were selected as vice presidents and Marie Pearthree as director-at-large.
Anderson retired from the city of Arlington, Texas, in 2005, after serving as assistant director, director of utilities, and deputy city manager. He currently works for Camp Dresser & McKee (CDM).
Kaye, who began her career with Sierra Pacific Power Co., stayed with the water operations when SPPC sold its water assets to Truckee Meadows (Nev.) Water Authority. In 2006, she moved to La Quinta, Calif., and started Kayepability Consulting.
Pearthree currently works for CH2M Hill. She was previously with Tucson Water, where she spearheaded the "At the Tap" program.
The new vice presidents and director-at-large will also assume their duties during the annual conference in June.
AWWA is the authoritative resource for knowledge, information, and advocacy to improve the quality and supply of water in North America and beyond.
