CAIRO, Egypt, Dec. 2, 2009 -- Orascom Construction Industries (OCI) confirmed today that its 50/50 joint venture with Hassan Allam Sons was awarded the Intake, Booster Station and Pipelines contract for the 6th October City Water Treatment Plant. The overall contract value is EGP 2.15 billion (USD393 million) with OCI's share valued at EGP 1.08 billion (USD196 million).
The project was tendered by the Construction Authority for Potable Water and Wastewater (CAPW) and will be financed by the Government of Egypt. The project will feed the 1.60 million m³/day 6th October City Water Treatment Plant with raw water using an intake and booster station with 12 pumps of 1.5 MW capacity each. The piping spans 118.5 km of steel between El Badrashain and Dahshour. The project also includes underground water tanks and ancillary buildings.
The project is expected to commence construction during Q4 2009 and will take approximately 36 months to complete.
