JEFFERSON CITY, MO, May 5, 2009 -- Gov. Jay Nixon announced the Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded the Jefferson County Stormwater Management Division a $10,000 grant. Jefferson County will use the grant to develop a watershed management plan for the Sandy Creek Watershed. During tough economic times, this infusion of grant funding will help the county protect its citizens and the environment by improving water quality.
The county will use the grant to develop a plan that will protect and improve water quality in the Sandy Creek sub-watershed by identifying pollutant sources and better management practices, setting goals and a timeline and establishing an evaluation and monitoring program. Jefferson County officials will work with local partners to assist and coordinate planning efforts in developing the plan. The project funds will be used for office and educational supplies, printing and binding costs for the plan and hosting public meetings.
The Jefferson County Stormwater Management Division will provide a match contribution of $6,667 during the life of the project bringing the total cost of the project to $16,667.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Region 7, through the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, has provided partial funding for this project under Section 319 of the Clean Water Act.
