STMS-Integra to install 300,000 water meters for Severn Trent Water
Feb. 12, 2009 -- Severn Trent Metering Services (STMS)-Integra, one of the United Kingdom's largest plumbing contractors, have been awarded a three-year contract to install approximately 300,000 residential water meters throughout the service area of Severn Trent Water, the world's fourth largest privately owned water company. Severn Trent Water serves more than eight million customers in the United Kingdom. The contract is valued at £25 million.
STMS-Integra will be installing meters at existing residences not previously metered, under a free meter option scheme, and in newly built properties. Where possible, meters will be fitted inside boundary boxes outside customer properties or internally depending on supply criteria.
The contract also includes the replacement and maintenance of aging water meters at customers' homes.
In order to complete the project the company will hire additional installation crews and will extend operating hours from the current weekday hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The company also will schedule meter installations on Saturday mornings.
According to Andy Herus, operations director for STMS-Integra, "STMS-Integra has installed more than 1.5 million water meters for companies including Severn Trent Water, South East Water and South Staffordshire Water. We also provide a range of other services including the supply and installation of pressure boosters; regulatory assistance, such as WRAS regulation and Legionella risk assessment; water efficiency studies; and laying and commissioning water mains and services."
STMS-Integra is an operating division of Severn Trent Services.
