• Deadline approaching for AGA scholarship contest
CENTENNIAL, CO, Feb. 15, 2009 -- The American Galvanizers Association (AGA) would like to encourage students to apply by March 31 for consideration in the 2009 Galvanize the Future: An Edgar K. Developed to aid future specifiers with the rising cost of a college education, the scholarship aims to teach these specifiers about hot-dip galvanizing while providing funding for their education.
The scholarship, which awards a total of $5,000 split amongst three winners, is available to full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in an accredited 4-year college or university in North America, during the 2008-2009 school year. Qualifying majors include: architecture, civil engineering, structural engineering, construction management, material science, or a related field.
This year, students must submit one of two essay options: Either they must present a convincing argument for the "greenness" of utilizing galvanized steel and its primary component, zinc; or, they must develop a course lecture for teaching students about corrosion management and what role hot-dip galvanizing plays in it...
