LONDON, UK, Feb. 9, 2009 -- Mott MacDonald has been appointed by the Environment Agency of England and Wales (EA) to provide flood risk management services as part of a new framework. The contract will run for up to four years, beginning in February 2009.

Mott MacDonald's role on the nationwide Strategic Flood Risk Management Framework 2 (SFRMF-2) is expected to include flood hydrology, hydraulic modeling (both one- and two-dimensional), flood risk mapping (including hazard mapping), flood forecasting modeling, reservoir failure inundation studies, and surface water flood management. In addition, Mott MacDonald will be working with RAB Consultants, who will provide specialist sub-consultancy services on flood warning, emergency response, and post-event analysis.

Richard Gamble, Mott MacDonald's framework manager based in Cambridge, commented 'Mott MacDonald is delighted to be supporting the Environment Agency in such an important and challenging area of work. The unprecedented flooding that parts of the UK experienced in 2007, and the subsequent recommendations set out in the Pitt Review, have highlighted the importance of a robust flood risk management strategy for the UK. Mott MacDonald looks forward to working in partnership with our client and the other framework consultants to respond to the evolving challenges of flood risk management as part of the new framework."

Mott MacDonald has worked for the Environment Agency since 1999 on similar flood risk management frameworks.
