• Itron conducts study to understand energy price increase impacts on utility demand forecasts -- SPOKANE, WA, Jan. 17, 2006 -- As an industry leader in providing energy forecasting information, Itron is conducting an energy price elasticity study. The impact of prices on energy forecasts is determined by the presence of price variables in forecasting models and by the coefficients on the price terms. Price coefficients can be converted into "elasticities," which are unitless numbers that give the percent change in sales caused by a one percent change in price. The survey and future Benchmarking Study are being conducted in response to a growing number of utilities that have expressed concern about the recent run-up of energy prices on electric and gas sales. The results from Itron's survey will be used to describe the industry's best practices for accounting for the potential price increases on future sales. Results of the survey will be shared with all participants while keeping individual responses confidential. In addition, Itron will discuss the results during a free forecasting brown bag seminar on March 21, 2006 at noon (Pacific Time) titled "Accounting for Price in Your Forecast: Measures and Methodologies"...
