PARSIPPANY, NY, Jan. 27, 2006 - The Hydraulic Institute (HI) has published a new American National Standard for Effects of Liquid Viscosity on Rotodynamic (Centrifugal and Vertical) Pump Performance (ANSI/HI 9.6.7). Replacing 40+ year old HI viscosity correction nomographs, the Standard is designed to predict the performance change of rotodynamic pumps operated on viscous liquids exhibiting Newtonian behavior relative to their performance on water, which is the basis for most published curves.
"By eliminating the need for interpolating graphic solutions, this Standard has major technical significance and practical application." explained Gregg Romanyshyn, technical director for HI. "This landmark Standard will provide valuable guidance to pump manufacturers, users, and others who have an interest in the performance of rotodynamic pumps."
HI members developed the new standard in collaboration with representatives from France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Switzerland. It includes contributions from an array of prominent industry experts and veterans.
A variety of rotodynamic pumps of conventional design are covered, including open or closed impellers and single or double suction pumps. In addition, the Standard includes information on methodology, definitions of symbols and terms, flowcharts which outline the procedure, theoretical explanations behind the methodology, and a method for estimating net positive suction head required (NPSHR).
The Standard, designated by HI product code A131, is available in hard copy or secure PDF format from the Hydraulic Institute for $195.00. It is also available on the ANSI/HI Pump Standards on CD-ROM Version 2.0, a newly released product that includes the full text of all ANSI/HI Standards and is available for $750.00. For more information, or to order, visit the HI e-Store at www.pumps.org or call 973-267-9700 x10.
HI Pump Standards are reliable, widely accepted references for anyone involved in pumps, including users, consultants, contractors, construction firms, manufacturers of pumps, seals, motors, instrumentation, controls, and pump software developers and systems integrators. HI periodically introduces new Standards based on industry needs.
The 89-year old Hydraulic Institute, the largest association of pump producers in North America, serves member companies and pump users worldwide by developing comprehensive industry Standards, expanding knowledge by providing education and tools, and serving as a forum for the exchange of industry information. Information on the Hydraulic Institute, its services, Standards, publications and meetings, can be found on the HI web site at www.pumps.org and www.pumplearning.org.
