Zenon obtains significant sales in December
OAKVILLE, ONT, Canada, Jan. 5, 2006 -- Zenon Environmental Inc. announced that the company booked $38 million for large orders it received in the month of December.

In December, Zenon received purchase orders to supply the company's new ZeeWeed 1000 version 3 membranes for three drinking water treatment plants. Among them is the Twin Oaks County project that the company announced earlier in October when Zenon was selected as the membrane supplier for the world's largest ultrafiltration plant. With construction underway, the plant is expected to be complete in the first half of 2008.

As the regional population continues to grow in San Diego County, drinking water treatment plants using membrane technology will continue to be built. The Sweetwater Authority in San Diego County will be another location in California where Zenon will supply its latest generation product. Construction on this 30 million gallon a day (113,000 cubic meters) plant can provide safe, superior quality water to approximately 150,000 people when completed by the end of 2007. In addition to these, a community in Georgia has also ordered a new ZeeWeed 1000 version 3 membrane system that once completed, will have the capacity to supply potable water to approximately 60,000 people.

With the inclusion of these plants Zenon's installed water treatment capacity will exceed 2 billion gallons per day all over the world.

Sales of the company's ZeeWeed 500 series membranes also continue to do well. The 500 series membranes are Zenon's strongest reinforced hollow fibre membranes with a proven track record of outstanding performance in difficult-to-treat waters. Among the orders received in December for the 500 series is a membrane bioreactor that will treat 9 million gallons of wastewater per day (34,000 cubic metres) for the North Kent Sewer Authority in Michigan; a water recycling plant for Oak Valley, California; and an industrial wastewater treatment plant in Indiana.

"As an industry leader, we continue to win new orders for our innovative technology," said Andrew Benedek, Zenon Chairman and CEO. "In addition to our new order intake, growing backlog and strong financial base, we continue to strive for excellence in providing superior service to our clients. With this strong order intake in December, our backlog is expected to continue to grow at the 30% range seen in previous years," added Benedek.

Based in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, Zenon Environmental Inc. (www.zenon.com) is a world leader in providing advanced membrane products and services for water purification, wastewater treatment and water reuse to municipalities and industries worldwide. Canada's Top 100 Employers ranked Zenon in their top 100 list for the last six years. An S&P/TSX Composite company, Zenon Environmental Inc. trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Homeland Security Stocks: Integrated security providers ECSI, GVIS positioned to benefit from new Senate Chemical Plant Security Bill -- NEW YORK, Jan. 5, 2006 -- Homeland Security Stocks.com (HSS) reported the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee introduced The Chemical Facility Anti-terrorism Act of 2005 which mandated security upgrades at over 15,000 U.S. facilities that produce, use or store hazardous chemicals. Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-Conn.), a longtime proponent of expanded nuclear and chemical security and co-sponsor with Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), said that despite the eye opening effects of the 9/11 attacks, "somehow we have not yet protected one of our greatest vulnerabilities". Supporting the legislation, the New York Times wrote: "If terrorists attacked a chemical plant, the death toll could be enormous. A single breached chlorine tank could, according to the Department of Homeland Security, lead to 17,500 deaths, 10,000 severe injuries and 100,000 hospitalizations. Many chemical plants have shockingly little security to defend against such attacks." The bill calls for a risk based, performance based, tiered approach to security, with a full range of security upgrades based upon the estimated risk of attack and vulnerability across the full range of U.S. facilities that store and use chemicals...
