• HYDRAcap®60 to provide 1.32 mgd of potable water on Malaysian island of Penang.
OCEANSIDE, CA, Sept. 18, 2006 -- Hydranautics, the global leader in membrane technology, was selected to provide their HYDRAcap ultrafiltration membrane technology for the 1.32 million gallons per day (mgd), or 5 million liters per day (mld), Bukit Panchor Water Treatment Plant on the Malaysian island state of Penang. Penang's public water utility, PBA (Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulua Pinang), is a globally recognized model of water management success. They provide water at rates per capita that among the lowest in world despite having the highest population density in the region, with approximately 99% the population having 24-hour access to reliable drinking water.
PBA chose Hydranautics' 0.8 mm I.D. diameter capillary HYDRAcap-60 to treat reservoir dam water for potable use. HYDRAcap and the 1.2 mm HYDRAcap-LD are superior treatment technologies when compared to conventional pretreatment, offering single step treatment, fouling resistance and chemical free operation at high recovery rates.
Over 130 HYDRAcap-60 are in place in Bukit Panchor, taking in feed water with turbidity ranging from 5-80 NTU; the state-of-the-art plant switches from dead-end filtration mode to cross-flow filtration mode when feed turbidity increases. Reliable element performance is critical in keeping clean water flowing to Penang's communities - this fully automated plant relies on only two operators to run the UF system.
Based in Oceanside, CA, with sales offices worldwide, Hydranautics (www.membranes.com) was founded in 1963, in 1987 became part of the multi-billion dollar Nitto Denko Corp. based in Osaka, Japan. Hydranautics manufactures reverse osmosis, nanofiltration and ultrafiltration membrane products for water treatment applications around the world.
