ESSEN, Germany, June 7, 2006 -- Beijing Drainage Group Siemens selected Siemens Water Technologies, a division of the Siemens Group Industrial Solutions and Services (I&SS), to supply the most up-to-date membrane technologies for Beijing Bei Xiaohe Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). The plant will also serve the Olympic Park in terms of recreational water and reuse water in 2008. The project is thus currently the largest of its kind in the world, and will be finished at the end of 2007. The contract is worth about US$18 million.

Bei Xiaohe WWTP, located at Asia Games Village venue in the northern part of Beijing City, has a capacity of 40,000 cubic meters per day with a service population of 400,000 and a service area of 30 square kilometers. According to the long term plan, the plant will be expanded to 100,000 m3/day. The plant was put into service since in 1990 and served the municipal waste water and recreational water for the Beijing Asia Game in the same year.

The plant will be equipped with a membrane bio reactor (MBR) using Memcor ultrafiltration membranes, the most advanced MBR technology of the world from Siemens. Thus, the capacity will increase to 60,000 m3 per day, including 50,000 m3 municipal water and 10, 000 m3 recreational water for the Olympic Park at the end of 2007, to fully meet the requirements of increasing demands of water utilization. Also, the Siemens scope of delivery includes mechanism, electrical and automation systems, instruments and services.
