CENTENNIAL, CO, June 20, 2006 -- The American Galvanizers Association (AGA) recently announced the winners of the 2006 Galvanize the Future essay contest. Nearly 70 entries were received from architecture and engineering students across North America.
The third place award and winner of $1,000 is 21-year-old Tyler Samson. Tyler is a mechanical engineering student at Queen's University in Guelph, ON, Canada. The AGA's Technical Director, Tom Langill met with Tyler at the annual ASTM meetings in Toronto to congratulate him.
The second place award and winner of $1,500 is 20-year-old Daniel Phillips. Daniel, an architecture student at Otis College of Art & Design in Venice, CA, wrote an intriguing essay using works of American literature as a basis for discussion. The AGA's Marketing Manager, John Krzywicki and Marketing Coordinator, Jed Rosenberg met with Daniel at the 2006 AIA National Convention and Expo in Los Angeles, CA to congratulate him.
The first place award and winner of $2,500 is Andrew Lynch, an 18-year-old mechanical engineering student at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Andrew's precise writing style, technical voice, and research of the galvanized coating earned him the top prize. AGA member, Bill Acra of Witt Galvanizing met with Andrew in Lexington to congratulate him.
The scholarship was open to any college student majoring in architecture, engineering, or materials science, who is a full- or part-time, undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at an accredited four-year college or university in North America.
