URS awarded design contract for Monroe, Mich., wastewater treatment plant renovation
FARMINGTON HILLS, MI, Dec. 1, 2006 -- URS Corp. announced yesterday it was recently awarded an $860,000 design and engineering contract for the renovation of the city of Monroe's 40-year-old wastewater treatment plant. URS will provide planning and detailed engineering design services to upgrade aging plant equipment, install a new emergency backup generator and construct wet weather facilities. URS was awarded the $25,000 contract to commission a planning study and develop project recommendations in January 2006.
Construction is slated for fall 2007 with an expected completion of spring 2009. An $810,000 Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) grant will fund 90% of the planning and design project with the balance paid through local funds. The MDEQ grant enables the City to be eligible for a low interest Clean Water Revolving Fund (SRF) loan for the construction.
