Takeover of the Italian company strengthens its range of solutions for wastewater treatment.

ERLANGEN, Germany, July, 14, 2006 -- The Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) Group, a leading global provider in water and wastewater treatment, has strengthened its position in the biosolids treatment and dewatering equipment market with the takeover of the Italian company Sernagiotto Technologies S.p.A, located in Casteggio near Milan.

As Roger Radke, head of the I&S Water Technologies (WT) Division commented, "With Sernagiotto's products and technologies for sludge drying and dewatering, we have rounded off our portfolio to cover the whole process chain in wastewater treatment. At the same time we've gained a new production and service location for our customers in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East."

As a license-holder, Siemens WT has already been successful in selling Sernagiotto's dewatering and drying technologies on the North American market via its group company USFilter. With the takeover, Siemens WT is now in a position to establish a footprint in currently unserved regional biosolids markets - in particular in Europe, North Africa and the countries of the Middle East: "In addition, our strategy is based on using Sernagiotto as a European regional manufacturing platform for products of various WT business units like biological treatment and clarification, purified water, and engineered products and systems"; said Radke. At the same time Sernagiotto will become a center of expertise for the transfer of biosolids technology within Siemens Water Technologies.

The environmental technology company Sernagiotto has been on the market since 1974: It has a strong process engineering capability which is utilized for comprehensive solutions such as sludge dryers and belt presses. The company will operate under the name of Siemens Water Technologies, S.p.A. at its current location under the operational management of the I&S Water Technologies Division and will be integrated into Siemens Italy.

Siemens Water Technologies (www.siemens.com/water) including the USFilter Group of Companies delivers cost-effective, reliable water and wastewater treatment systems and services to municipal, industrial, commercial and institutional customers worldwide. The division "Water Technologies" is part of Siemens' Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) which is a system and solution provider for industrial and infrastructure facilities and global service provider for the plant and projects business covering planning, installation, operation and the entire life cycle. In fiscal 2005 (to September 30) I&S employed a total of 31,700 people worldwide and achieved total sales of EUR 5.390 billion.
